As ‘Great British Bake Off’ fans continue to grieve the loss of Mel and Sue, reports are now beginning to come in thick and fast about who could be replacing them when the show moves to Channel 4.
The most recent name thrown into the mix is Davina McCall, who is said to be at the top of the producers’ new host wishlist.
Davina’s name repeatedly cropped up on Twitter when Mel and Sue first announced their departure, with some fans calling out for her to get the job, and, indeed, other ‘Bake Off’ viewers concerned she wouldn’t be the right fit for the show.
An insider tells The Mirror: “Davina is already golden girl at Channel 4 after working on some of its biggest hits and so is at the top of bosses’ wishlist.”
Stand-up comedian and spin-off show ‘Extra Slice’ host Jo Brand was the first star to be named bookies’ favourite to succeed Mel and Sue, while Clare Balding is another name which has repeatedly been linked with the job.
Meanwhile, with Mel and Sue now gone, it’s still not known whether judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry will be back for the new series.
However, recent reports suggested that the BBC was “bending over backwards” in its pursuit to keep Mary on team, while her husband has told the Daily Mail: “She’s very happy with the BBC, put it that way.”
