Do you keep your mobile phone with you all the time? With so many ways to stay connected, procrastinate and distract yourself, it’s important to take a step back and spend some time away from your devices.
Caroline Giegerich, digital strategist and a digital detox advocate, joined HuffPost Live host Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani to discuss the benefits of a mobile cleanse. One indication that you might be a candidate for a digital detox? You can't even go the the bathroom without checking your email and updates.
“You’re actually splitting your attention even on using the facilities and trying to use social media, and that’s silly,” said Giegerich, who has personally struggled with phone dependency issues.
Giegerich referenced a post on Medium by Jeremy Vandehey, which captured the tug of war many of us experience when it comes to our smartphones.
“He talks about push vs. pull: push means you’re sending something out to someone, pull means you’re constantly checking it because you have nothing else to do, you’re lonely or you’re bored.”
And Giegerich echoed a piece of Vandehey's advice for how to treat your phone in social situations: “keep it in your pants.”
