Disney has unveiled their long-rumoured streaming service, which will be rolled out in the US later this year.
Named Disney Plus, the platform will feature an array of titles from Disney’s back catalogue, including the Star Wars series, as well as films from Pixar, Marvel Studios and National Geographic.
They’ll also be unveiling 25 original series and 10 new films in their first year alone, including the live-action Lady And The Tramp remake, a feature-length adaptation of the Disney Channel series Phineas And Ferb and a Monsters Inc spin-off series, Monsters At Work.
There’ll also be the first live-action Star Wars series, The Mandalorian, and new instalments in the High School Musical franchise.
Also among their new projects will be the documentary The World According To Jeff Goldblum, a stand-alone Loki film from Marvel Studios starring Tom Hiddleston and a series titled What If…?, taking pivotal moments in the Marvel Universe and exploring how things would be different if they’d played out in another way.
Oh yeah, and now that Disney and Fox are under the same roof, you’ll also be able to stream all 30 series of The Simpsons for the first time, which we’ll definitely be blocking out a weekend to enjoy when Disney Plus arrives in the UK.
As if all that wasn’t enough, Disney Plus is also being made available for a more-affordable-than-Netflix $6.99 a month (roughly £5.35), and will be made available in the US on 12 November.
So far, a date for the UK version is yet to be revealed.
Disney Plus is far from the only Netflix rival launching in the coming months, with Apple TV and BritBox also set to debut in 2019.
