Donald Trump has been characteristically bombastic on Twitter after the release of the Mueller report on Thursday, claiming it signifies “GAME OVER” for “the haters and the radical left democrats”.
The President was still still going hard on Friday morning, claiming that despite accepting the findings of the Special Counsel’s investigation, the evidence those very findings are based on can’t actually be trusted. Go figure.
Trump began a thread saying “so-called ‘notes’” quoted in the report “never existed until needed”.
In the next tweet he said statements about him were “total bullshit” and called the whole investigation “an Illegally Started Hoax”.
Then... nothing.
It’s been, at the time of writing, five hours since his last tweet and he has yet to finish it.
UPDATE: Trump completed his sentence after eight hours had elapsed.
What could explain this interruption? Well, Twitter has a few suggestions.
Perhaps he actually reread the report.
Or maybe he had a little accident?
Perhaps his memory has failed him?
Or did more responsible adults intervene?
Whatever the reason, we can all agree he’s taking the whole thing well.
Elsewhere, the chairman of the US House of Representatives Judiciary Committee has issued a subpoena for special counsel Robert Mueller’s report into Russian meddling in the 2016 election and the underlying materials.
Democratic Representative Jerry Nadler of New York is asking for the information by 1 May, the Press Association reports.
That is also the day when Attorney General William Barr is scheduled to give evidence before a Senate committee and one day before Barr is set to appear before Nadler’s committee. Nadler has also summoned Mueller to give evidence.
The subpoena is the opening shot in what could be a lengthy legal battle as Congress escalates its investigation of US President Donald Trump.
If the Justice Department does not respond, Democrats could hold officials in contempt of Congress or eventually fight the battle in court.
The Judiciary Committee voted 24-17 earlier this month to give Nadler permission to issue subpoenas for the final report, its exhibits and any underlying evidence or materials prepared for Mueller’s investigation.
