Just another day at the (Oval) office.

Donald Trump made significant changes to a quote about himself, while tweeting about how honest he is on Wednesday.

The President let the world know that he’d woken up and logged on for the day by posting a few lines from a Washington Post opinion piece about his presidency so far.

“Trump could be the most honest president in modern history,” the quote, attributed to Marc Thiessen, read. “When you look at the real barometer of presidential truthfulness, which is promise keeping, he is probably the most honest president in American history.

“He’s done exactly what he said he would do.”

A lovely way to start to the day, don’t you think?

There’s one small problem though – that’s not what Thiessen wrote and a quick check of the original article reveals that the Republican president has been very liberal with his paraphrasing.

Here’s the opening to Thiessen’s piece (with one key part that he choose to omit in bold):

“Donald Trump may be remembered as the most honest president in modern American history.

Don’t get me wrong, Trump lies all the time. He said that he “enacted the biggest tax cuts and reforms in American history” (actually they are the eighth largest) and that “our economy is the strongest it’s ever been in the history of our country” (which may one day be true, but not yet). In part, it’s a New York thing — everything is the biggest and the best.

But when it comes to the real barometer of presidential truthfulness — keeping his promises — Trump is a paragon of honesty. For better or worse, since taking office Trump has done exactly what he promised he would.”

Not quite the same, is it?
