’EastEnders’ fans were left in tears on Monday (10 October) night, as Whitney Dean and Lee Carter discovered that she had suffered a miscarriage.
The Walford couple had been expecting their first child together, but they sadly lost their unborn baby in emotional scenes on the BBC One soap.
Whitney was rushed to hospital by Lee’s worried parents Mick and Linda, after she begun suffering from spotting and cramps.
An ultrasound scan then confirmed their worst fears, as they were informed she had suffered a mkscarriage.
Actors Shona McCarty And Danny-Boy Hatchard also received praise for their portrayal of the couple, as they came to terms with their loss.
Danny later took to Twitter to thank fans for their support, writing:
As well as preparing to become parents, Whitney and Lee have been busy getting ready for their upcoming wedding in recent weeks.
However, following the announcement Danny-Boy is being written out of the show, fans will be wondering whether the miscarriage could lead to the breakdown of Lee and Whitney’s relationship, and his eventual departure from Albert Square.
Bosses are currently keeping tight-lipped about Lee’s exit storyline, but viewers have speculated he could leave with mum Linda, as actress Kellie Bright is due to go on maternity leave later this year, as she prepares to welcome her second child.
Lee is just one of 10 characters leaving ‘EastEnders’ in the coming months, with the likes of Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell, Les and Pam Coker and Masood Ahmed also being written out.
Watch the fall out from Whitney and Lee’s miscarriage on Tuesday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
