Elon Musk may be getting physically closer than ever to Donald Trump after the president reportedly grew tired of the tech mogul hanging around him.
The X owner is likely getting prized office space in the White House’s West Wing after he asked officials for days about how much access he would receive, The New York Times reported on Monday.
Musk, the now sole leader of the Trump-created Department of Government Efficiency, was given an all-access blue badge, according to ABC News, and an email with the EOP (Executive Office of the President) suffix, The Hill noted.
Musk, who caused a stir with a much-debated salute during Trump’s inauguration day, appears to be getting open arms from the president.
Musk’s path to the inner sanctum of the Trump administration may have been smoothed by Vivek Ramaswamy withdrawing from his co-leader DOGE post to run for governor in Ohio. Musk reportedly played a part in pushing Ramaswamy out the door, Politico reported.
Musk was expected to have an office in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building next door, outlets reported.
But his reported 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue address perhaps signals an even greater alliance between the president and tech mogul.
Musk’s nearness is somewhat of a surprise given previous reports leading up to the inauguration.
NYT reporter Maggie Haberman said on a podcast earlier this month that Musk’s physical proximity was bothering Trump.
The X owner lived in a cottage at Mar-a-Lago over Christmas after supposedly getting under Trump’s skin for his growing influence as a “shadow president” ― as some called Musk.
