Medics performed an emergency Caesarean-section on a heavily pregnant woman who was stabbed to death in her home, an inquest has heard.

Kelly Mary Fauvrelle, 26, was eight months pregnant when she was attacked in her home in Thornton Heath, south London, on June 29.

Aaron McKenzie, 25, is accused of murdering her and of the manslaughter of her baby son, named Riley by relatives after he was delivered at the scene.

The baby died four days later in hospital.

McKenzie, from Peckham, south London, is also charged with possession of a knife. He will next appear at the Old Bailey on Wednesday for a bail hearing.

Detective chief inspector Michael Norman told the inquest at Croydon Coroner’s Court that when emergency crews first reached the scene, they thought Fauvrelle was suffering a “pregnancy-related incident”.

DCI Norman, of the Met’s homicide and serious crime command, said: “I am the senior investigating officer in this case.

“Emergency services were called to Raymead Avenue in the early hours of Saturday 29 June on or about 3.30am.

“Emergency services attended, which was a combination of HEMS and LAS and police, to discover the critically injured body of Kelly Fauvrelle.

“Initially it was thought she had some sort of pregnancy related incident, but quickly the family who called this in made them presently aware that this was an assault.

“Kelly Fauvrelle was 33-weeks pregnant and, despite the efforts of emergency services, she was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“Emergency services were given no option but to carry out an emergency c-section and delivered baby Riley, a boy, who was taken directly to the hospital.

“Sadly, unfortunately, despite best efforts of everyone involved, he tragically died on 3 July - four days after he was born.”

The mother-to-be died of “multiple stab wounds”, the hearing was told. The inquest into both her and Riley’s deaths was opened and adjourned on Tuesday while police continue to investigate. Riley’s cause of death has not yet been established.

Assistant Croydon coroner Toby Watkin said: “I open this inquest touching on the death of Riley Fauvrelle and Kelly Mary Fauvrelle who was born on the 19 May 1993. And Riley was born on the 29 June 2019.”

He added: “It being apparent that some individual has been charged with manslaughter or murder of both Kelly Fauvrelle and Riley Fauvrelle, I’m therefore required to suspend this investigation.

“The investigation will only be resumed when there is sufficient reason to do so.

“I therefore adjourn both inquests for a date to be specified.”

Royal Mail worker Fauvrelle was attacked in her bedroom on the ground floor of the family home.

Her whole family, including her mother, two brothers, sister and sister’s baby son, were all in the house.

They were alerted by the sound of Fauvrelle’s screams at about 3.30am.
