Police are appealing for information after a 98-year-old was left fighting for his life after being attacked and robbed in his north London home.
Peter Gouldstone’s son found him suffering from bruising to his body and a head injury on Tuesday morning.
He was taken from the address, on Evesham Road, to a hospital in east London where he remains in a life threatening condition.
Officers from the Metropolitan Police found evidence of a disturbance at the address, noting that a Panasonic television and other personal items are missing.
The victim’s son, Simon, said: “He has lived at his address for over 60 years.
“I was the first person that found him on Tuesday. He was in his bedroom on the floor. I noticed that he was agitated and was semi-conscious. He could not communicate. He had bruising on his arms and face.
“I would urge any members of the public that know any information about those responsible or who maybe able to help the investigation to come forward to the police as soon as possible.”
Speaking earlier on Wednesday, Detective Inspector Paul Ridley described the incident as a “a brutal and senseless attack on a vulnerable pensioner in his own home”.
“From our inquiries we have established that the victim was spoken to by a family member on the telephone on Monday, 5 November at 2pm and had not raised any concerns,” he said. “We are therefore confident, the attack has taken place in the 20-hour window between then, possibly Bonfire Night, to when he was discovered.
“I would urge any members of the public that may have seen any persons acting suspiciously in the vicinity of Evesham Road, Enfield, N11 to come forward to my investigation team as a priority.”
