Police in Vietnam have arrested eight people following the discovery of 39 bodies in the back of a refrigerated lorry in Essex, according to state media.
“Based on what we learn from the suspects, we will actively launch investigations to fight and eradicate these rings which bring people illegally to Britain,” Nghe An province police chief Nguyen Huu Cau sa said, according to the official Vietnam News Agency.
On Friday, Vietnamese police arrested two people and summoned others for questioning on suspicion of involvement in the incident.
Meanwhile, Essex Police said they now believed that all 39 migrants who died – eight women and 31 men – were Vietnamese nationals. It had previously been thought that the victims were Chinese nationals.
