Whether they like it or not, more fashion brands need to start thinking about sustainability. The textile industry will account for 25 percent of the global carbon budget by 2050, according to ThredUp’s 2019 Resale Report. The online secondhand retailer claims that 59 percent of consumers expect retailers to create clothes ethically and sustainably.

But are they keeping up with demand?

While the fashion industry still has a ways to go in terms of ethical practices and sustainable production. More brands are considering fair trade practices, production ethics, cruelty-free methods, sustainable materials and accessible price points when creating their clothes. We’ve even seen a few sustainable swimsuit brands that we’ll be sure to shop this summer.

Not only do consciously designed clothing brands positively influence how we shop, but it also leaves us feeling good about our purchases and inspires other companies to do better. It’s a win-win.
