If you could do with some cheering up – and let’s face it, who doesn’t need that right now? – then the newly-released trailer for Everybody’s Talking About Jamie could be just the thing.
The big-screen version of the hit West End musical about a teenager who dreams of being a drag queen was originally supposed to be released later this year, but will now be hitting cinemas in February 2021.
To tide us over until then, a new trailer for the film was unveiled on Sunday morning, showing newcomer Max Harwood in action as the titular Jamie New for the first time.
The trailer also teases some of the film’s elaborate musical numbers, as well as a glimpse of cast members Richard E Grant, Sarah Lancashire and Sharon Horgan in character.
“I don’t just want to be a drag queen,” Jamie is heard saying in the trailer. “I have to be one.”
It’s also revealed in the trailer that British drag performers Myra Dubois, Anna Phylactic and Son Of A Tutu will be appearing in supporting roles in the film, alongside Oscar nominee Richard as his drag alter-ego Loco Chanel.
Everybody’s Talking About Jamie debuted in the West End in 2017, based on the BBC Three documentary, Jamie: Drag Queen At 16, a teenager who wanted to attend his school prom in drag.
The production received critical acclaim, including nominations for Best New Musical, Best Actor In A Musical and Outstanding Achievement In Music at the Oliviers, the same year Hamilton ended up sweeping the board.
Everybody’s Talking About Jamie will be released on 26 February 2021.
