Fatima Whitbread taking on the Feed Your Face Extreme Trial in 2011 went down as one of the most infamous I’m A Celebrity moments ever.
But speaking ahead of the new series, Fatima has admitted there’s another grim detail of the story she’s not shared before.
For those who need reminding, during her series, the Olympic javelin thrower was chosen by the public to take part in a signature Bushtucker Trial, donning a clear plastic helmet which was slowly filled with various critters.
After completing the trial, Fatima then struggled to remove a cockroach that had become lodged up her nose, in scenes that got everyone talking at the time.
Well, reflecting on the moment during an appearance in the special I’m A Celebrity highlights show A Jungle Story, which aired on Sunday night, Fatima revealed that after the cockroach was dislodged, she actually held onto it, and still has it to this day.
“I could feel his furry little legs up there, it was very uncomfortable and very unsettling,” she explained. “But at the same time, I just thought, ‘well there’s no point getting upset about this’.
“It did come out, and it didn’t last long… and I kept him, and had him waxed. LB, I call him. Because at the time, he was a little bastard.”
ITV bosses are currently gearing up for the 20th series of I’m A Celebrity, which debuts on Sunday night at 9pm.
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the show has moved from its usual home in the Australian jungle to a remote castle in Wales, with the 10 celebrities taking part in the show having now been announced.
