Spoilers ahead!
He died a noble death protecting his Queen, but Ser Jorah Mormont was supposed to survive the whole of Game Of Thrones series eight.
Iain Glen’s character was one of the many who was lost during the Battle Of Winterfell, taking his last breathe in the arms of Daenerys Targaryen.
However, a member of the show’s writing team has now revealed that the initial plans for the series saw Jorah making it to the end and joining Jon Snow in the Night’s Watch.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Dave Hill explained: “For a long time we wanted Ser Jorah to be there at The Wall in the end.
“The three coming out of the tunnel would be Jon and Jorah and Tormund.
“But the amount of logic we’d have to bend to get Jorah up to The Wall and get him to leave Dany’s side right before [she died in the finale]... there’s no way to do that blithely.
“And Jorah should have the noble death he craves defending the woman he loves.”
Jorah wasn’t the only Mormont to die in the Battle Of Winterfell as fan favourite Lyanna also made her final appearance, dying moments after killing a zombie giant.
The six-episode series received mixed reviews from fans and critics, with bosses being forced to defend the pacing of the installments.
HBO’s programming president, Casey Bloys, said earlier this week: “File this under you can’t please everybody.
“The guys [showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss] have had a very, very specific plan in their head for a long time. This was not something that was kind of slapdash, where at the end of last season we said, ‘Eh, we only feel like doing six’.
“They were very, very deliberate. This was well thought out… I think the guys did a great job.”
