Having already raised upwards of £70,000 for Emilia Clarke’s charity, Game Of Thrones fans are at it again, this time donating money to a cause close to her co-star Kit Harington’s heart.
A JustGiving page was set up by viewers for Emilia’s charity SameYou in the wake of the show’s divisive finale, in what was described as a “gesture of love and support” to show the Game Of Thrones cast their gripes with the last episodes did not lie with the actors.
Following this, a second page in aid of Mencap – a charity Kit has supported for a number of years – has garnered popularity online, with donations reaching more than £40,000 in less than a week.
Reddit user AlpineJ0e originally put the page together, writing: “Kit Harington has given so much to the fans of Game of Thrones over the past decade playing the King in the North, Jon Snow. He absolutely nailed his performance and we loved every second of screentime we had with him.
“This fundraiser is here to show Kit that we’re incredibly thankful to him for the sheer amount of love and skill he put into Jon Snow for us to enjoy.
“To show our gratitude, /r/Freefolk and other fans want to contribute to the charity Mencap, which Kit has been supporting for several years. Mencap supports people with learning disabilities to live independent and fulfilling lives.”
At the time of writing, the aforementioned JustGiving page for Emilia’s charity SameYou has reached 95% of its £100,000 target.
Kit starred as Jon Snow in all eight series of Game Of Thrones, taking on a central role in many of the show’s main storylines.
In the weeks after the Game Of Thrones finale aired, it was reported that Kit had checked into a facility, seeking help for what were described as “personal issues”.
His representative said: “Kit has decided to utilise this break in his schedule as an opportunity to spend some time at a wellness retreat to work on some personal issues.”
