The first reviews of the upcoming Gavin & Stacey Christmas special have begun trickling in, and we’re pleased to say they’re overwhelmingly positive.
After a 10-year absence, James Corden announced back in May that he’d reunited with fellow creator and co-star Ruth Jones to pen a new episode of the Bafta-winning sitcom, set to air on Christmas Day.
On Monday, the episode was shown for the first time to journalists, who quickly began posting their thoughts on Twitter, with everyone agreeing we’re in for a real treat.
Early reviews have already referred to the episode as “phenomenal”, “a delight” and, of course, “utterly lush”, with one even claiming the special is the “best episode yet”.
Most of the cast were also in attendance at the event, with Mathew Horne, Alison Steadman and Ruth Jones answering questions on stage from host Rylan Clark-Neal.

Specific details about the episode are still being kept tightly under wraps, although James Corden briefly teased what fans should expect in an interview with the Sunday Times.
As well as revealing that they would be paying tribute to the late Margaret John – who played Stacey’s neighbour Doris in all three series – he insisted that they wouldn’t be making any reference to Brexit, saying: “We just want the new show to be a nostalgic joy-bomb.”
When asked whether the episode would finally answer what happened on Uncle Bryn and Jason’s notorious fishing trip, James apparently boomed: “I’m never going to tell you!”
The Gavin And Stacey Christmas special will air on Christmas Day on BBC One.
