New mum Gemma Atkinson has hit back at claims she’s been “selling” pictures of her newborn baby Mia, revealing that she has turned down “various offers” from magazines.
Earlier this week, a number of tabloids claimed the former Emmerdale star has been making money from photographs of her baby daughter, with MailOnline reporting that she was billing outlets who used them up to £150.
However, Gemma has now explained the situation, revealing that she is actually cracking down on publications who have “lifted” pictures of Mia without permission.
Gemma, who welcomed baby Mia with partner and Strictly Come Dancing professional Gorka Marquez earlier this month, wrote on Twitter: “I don’t normally rise to tabloids, but when it comes to my daughter I absolutely will.
“This is why we decided from the very start to not do any press shoots or interviews of me, my bump, or us with Mia despite having various offers off most magazines [sic].”
In a Notes app screengrab, Gemma clarified the situation in further detail, writing that she “constantly” has images “lifted without my permission to provide a source of content”.
“I enlisted a licensing agency to use copyright law to bill any usages of her [Mia’s] images with the monies raised going to Bolton Hospital,” Gemma wrote. “I don’t care about them using my images for nothing, I’m used to it. But my daughter is a different matter.”
Gemma has shared a handful of snaps and videos of Mia on Instagram, which allows publications to ‘embed’ the posts – essentially linking to it on the social networking site, as seen above.
Her gripe is with outlets that have decided against doing this, and instead screen-grabbed her photos of Mia to upload them to their sites.
Mia is the first baby for Gemma and Gorka, who met while appearing on the 2017 series of Strictly Come Dancing.
