‘Great British Bake Off’ viewers may have celebrated no-one leaving the tent last week, but it meant they suffered twice the pain on Tuesday night thanks to a double elimination.
Fans were left bereft after two favourites, Terry Hartill and Karen Wright, left the tent after Spice Week.
The pair both failed to impress with their bakes during the episode, but it was left to Paul Hollywood to make the final judgement, as Prue Leith had to miss the showstopper challenge due to sickness.
Terry had returned to the competition after being given a pass last week when he was too ill to take part in Dessert Week.
His exit was particularly devastating for fans, as after being eliminated, he paid tribute to his late wife and credited the show for helping him overcome his loss.
“My wife and I were very happy and that was a massive loss,” he said.
“There wasn’t anything that filled that void for a very long time so it did give me a focus.
“It’s been a big help.”
Fellow axed baker Karen added: “Outside of having a family, as a personal achievement, nothing will ever top this.”
Their departures left a whole in the hearts of viewers on social media...
Elsewhere, Kim-Joy was named this week’s Star Baker after her Christmas spice iced chandelier proved to be the definition of a show-stopper.
‘The Great British Bake Off’ continues next Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 4.
