Making ice cream cakes in the height of summer went about as well as you'd expect.

Great British Bake Off fans were gutted with the results of this week’s show, which saw the remaining contestants attempting to serve up an ice cream cake in sweltering conditions.

The latest episode of the Channel 4 show was filmed in the heat of the summer, with the amateur bakers having to contend not just with the pressure of the competition, but high temperatures in the tent.

For the 80s-themed challenges, the contestants had to stand over a deep fat fryer to make finger doughnuts, which had mixed results for a few of the bakers.

They were then tasked with making a unique ice cream cake in the showstopper challenge, which had disastrous results for one fan favourite...

Sadly, it was Lottie’s time to go, after her ice cream-coated cassette tape cake melted, due to the heat.

Don’t Go! Oh Lottie, with all your creativity and hilarity it’s been so wonderful to have your presence in the Bake Off Tent. You definitely can bake! #GBBO pic.twitter.com/wplDC6TRjd

Fans were gutted to see her hang up her apron, with many questioning whether she’d been at an unfair disadvantage due to the conditions she and her competitors were working under…

Genuinely believe that they should not send anybody home this week. Do a double next week if necessary. That environment was totally out of their control #GBBO

#GBBO why send anyone home this week? Absolutely unfair to make ice cream cakes in that heat! Well done Lottie. Undeserved xXx

I’ll miss some family members less than I’ll miss Lottie from #GBBO.

Gutted that @MarkWLutton and Lottie are out of #GBBO two weeks running, they were my 2 favourites, such fun personalities, @LauraAdlington for the win now 😊👍🏻

— Charlene (@CK1london) November 3, 2020

real talk though it was so unfair to send anyone home after they had to make ice cream cakes in that heat #gbbo

— hannah 🦇 (@vietatomorire) November 3, 2020

Not being funny but what criticism can you give now on #GBBO? "Oh you shouldn't have made ice cream cake in 35C heat". Literally that would be the first thing a pro baker would say. "I want to make ice cream cake", "don't do it in 35C heat"

Gutted at Lottie leaving this week :( really felt unfair that you can do well to average in the first two challenges but one bad showstopper knocks you out.

Especially considering ice cream on such a hot day is a fucking pain.

#GBBO I am so happy Hermine finally got Star Baker. The tent would be nothing without her giggly, sparkly personality and incredible bakes!

I am SO happy to see Hermine succeeding this week, she truly deserves it. #GBBO pic.twitter.com/ihxK0HYzPo
