Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) made an embarrassing flub with his statement that paid tribute to former President Jimmy Carter, who died Sunday at age 100.
The Donald Trump-admiring Republican governor hailed Carter for his “selfless service to the American people” in a statement shared on social media.
But Abbott also said that he and his wife, Cecilia Abbott, send “our prayers and deepest condolences to First Lady Rosalynn Carter and the entire Carter family,” reported multiple media outlets.
Former first lady Rosalynn Carter, though, died at age 96 in November 2023.
The statement was later revised to remove any mention of the late former first lady, reported the Houston Press.

As one social media user quipped, “the internet doesn’t forget.”
