A man has been arrested after a 12-year-old trick-or-treater was seriously injured on Halloween when she was struck by a motorist who had been shot in the face.
Merseyside Police said a 28-year-old man was detained on suspicion of attempted murder following the shooting in Croxteth on Thursday.
The girl sustained serious, but not life-threatening, injuries after being hit by the car in a residential street.
The force said a man had been shot at while driving a black VW Golf down Sceptre Road at 7.50pm. The girl was then hit by the car.
Shortly after the incident, a man presented at hospital with a non-life threatening facial injury.
Speaking after the incident on Thursday, chief inspector Mark Everard said: “Firearms have no place on the streets of Merseyside and we are committed to finding the people responsible for using them and bringing them to justice.”
