Singer-songwriter Halsey has jumped to Miley Cyrus’ defence after someone on Twitter appeared to blame the star’s sexuality for her recent split from husband Liam Hemsworth.
Halsey was responding to one man on Twitter, who wrote that the break-up “confirms that you shouldn’t date bi people” while also suggesting the singer “cheated on Liam with a woman”, despite this having not been reported anywhere to be the case.
“Doesn’t surprise me that ur saying this and ur page has u crying about Brie Larson too!”
the star – who is also bisexual – wrote, alluding to the fact certain men took issue with Brie’s leading role in Captain Marvel earlier this year.
“Stop being afraid of women who aren’t afraid to do what pleases them and not other people.”
Halsey was previously one of the first high-profile stars to defend Taylor Swift when she voiced her upset at learning that music manager Scooter Braun was the new owner of the masters to her first six albums.
Miley has previously said she identifies as both pansexual and gender-fluid, something which she elaborated on with regards to marriage to Liam in a Vanity Fair interview earlier this year.
“We’re redefining, to be fucking frank, what it looks like for someone that’s a queer person like myself to be in a hetero relationship. A big part of my pride and my identity is being a queer person,” she said.
Miley and Liam confirmed their split over the weekend, after less than a year of marriage.
A rep for the pair said: “Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time.
“Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers.
“They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.”
