Henry Cavill has shared a cryptic video amid rumours that he is stepping down from his role as Superman.
While speculation about his future with the superhero franchise raged on, Henry posted a video on his Instagram account in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Sporting a “Krypton lifting team” t-shirt, a somber-faced Henry slowly lifts up a Superman action figure, accompanied by a classical tune, interspersed with dog barking.
He added: “Today was exciting #Superman”
Rumours about Henry’s departure from the DC universe started on Wednesday, when The Hollywood Reporter published quotes from a source claiming the actor was in the course of “hanging up his cape”.
A Warner Bros. spokesperson remained tight-lipped on the subject, insisting: “We have a great relationship and great respect for Henry Cavill that continues to remain unchanged.
“Additionally we have made no current decisions regarding any upcoming Superman films.”
Henry made his debut as the superhero in 2013’s ‘Man Of Steel’, returning three years later for the crossover film ‘Batman vs. Superman: Dawn Of Justice’, opposite Ben Affleck as the Dark Knight.
Last year, both he and Ben reprised their roles for the follow-up film, ‘Justice League’.
While Henry’s future as Superman remains uncertain, it has been confirmed that he’s joining a whole new cult franchise, taking on the lead role in Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of ‘The Witcher’.
He’ll play Geralt of Rivia in the new show, based on the fantasy novels of the same name, which were later reworked into a successful video game series.
