I’m A Celebrity... Get me Out Of Here! viewers were left howling and cringing in equal measure after watching campmate Beverley Callard put her foot in her mouth during a conversation with her fellow contestants.
Tuesday night’s episode saw the soap legend sharing her extremely candid views on the reality show Splash!, apparently forgetting that campmate Vernon Kay was its host.
“It was a funny show,” Vernon said of the short-lived reality series, which featured contestants including Gemma Collins, Jade Ewen, Joey Essex and Tina Malone. “It got millions and millions of viewers, watching celebrities diving into a swimming pool.”
Apparently only catching one half of the conversation, Beverley then interjected, commenting it was the “most stupid programme ever”.
“It kept my central heating on, though, Beverley,” Vernon responded. “The worst show I’ve ever seen… cheers, Bev.”
It was at this moment that the penny dropped for the former Coronation Street star, who swiftly apologised for the gaffe.
“Oh no,” she said. “I’m so sorry. Vernon, I am so sorry. I did not know that. Honest to god, I didn’t know.”
She later revealed privately: “I wanted to curl up and die. Poor Vernon. I can’t believe I did that. I’m really notorious for putting my foot in it, and I really did there.”
Fortunately for Beverley, viewers watching at home thought her unfortunate comment was hilarious…
During her time in the I’m A Celebrity castle, Beverley has gone down a treat with viewers, winning praise for her motivational speech to Jordan North and giving the show one of its biggest memes after the first trial of the series.
