Eliminated I’m A Celebrity star Ian Wright has said he has “a lot to work on” after discovering more about himself in the jungle.

The former footballer became the fifth celebrity to be voted off the show on Wednesday night, telling hosts Ant and Dec he felt it was his time to go.

I feel it is time,” he explained. “I got to the [point]... it is becoming more and more difficult to be positive and there are people around you that need to be positive.

“Towards the end, especially young people, I wasn’t positive enough in the end. I feel like my time has come and it has been unbelievable, I swear to god.”

Ian continued: “The challenge I got [in the jungle], wasn’t what I was expecting. I thought it would be the [trials], but it was more a mental [challenge], I found the mental side of me, I have a lot to work to do on it, I learned a lot about myself being in there.”

Following his elimination, The Mirror reported that Ian would not be following in the footsteps of his former campmates and appearing on ITV daytime shows to discuss his time in the jungle.

ITV declined to comment on this when contacted by HuffPost UK.

During his I’m A Celebrity stint, Ian was accused by some viewers of “bullying” fellow contestant Andrew Maxwell, who he clashed with on more than one occasion.

This suggestion was dismissed by Ian’s wife, as well as Andrew himself, when he became the second contestant to be axed earlier this week.

Andrew said: “I love the man. We are really similar. Everybody’s a family man or family woman but I think both of us are on the same level, and got on the same rhythm of being down and missing our families at the exact same time.

“But there was never even a moment of personal animosity. There was huge amounts of affection. Absolutely again it’s learning to live with other people.”

I’m A Celebrity airs every night on ITV at 9pm, with this year’s winner being crowned on Sunday.
