Jacqueline Jossa asked the questions all Girls Aloud fans have been wondering about when she gave Nadine Coyle a grilling on Wednesday night’s I’m A Celebrity – but the pop star’s responses haven’t exactly convinced everyone.
It has long been reported that the singer has a feud with former bandmate Cheryl Tweedy, and her recent admission that she hasn’t spoken to most of the group in six years had also sparked speculation of a fall-out.
However, when pressed by campmate Jacqueline about relations between the former band, Nadine claimed rumours about her relationship with Cheryl were not accurate.
As they were sat by the creek, the EastEnders star asked Nadine if she got on with everyone in the group, and she replied: “Yes.”
When Jacqueline said she had heard that Nadine didn’t get on with Cheryl, she simply responded: “Fake news.”
Nadine also claimed being in the group had been “really good”, saying: “I like being in a girl band. I am one of three sisters and went to an all-girls grammar school so I’m used to being around girls.”
However, Nadine’s less than expansive answers didn’t serve to shut down the speculation...
Jacqueline also won praise for cutting to the chase with her questions...
Girls Aloud – made up of Nadine, Cheryl, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh – was created during TV talent show Popstars: The Rivals in 2002.
They went on a hiatus in 2009 later reuniting for a tenth anniversary tour in 2012, before announcing their disbandment on the final night.
Nadine always maintained that she had nothing to do with Girls Aloud going their separate ways – something that Cheryl very publicly disputed.
“She’s full of shit,” Cheryl told Attitude magazine in 2014. “What d’you want us to say? She’s full of shit.
“She was the one who wanted to make a solo record. Which is why we took the hiatus.
“She wants to come out and say we broke the band up? No! She shouldn’t tell porkie pies. She should remember why we took the hiatus after seven years so she could go and…”
She continued: “Okay, so do you want us to tell the truth? She wasn’t going to make another Girls Aloud record until she got a solo deal.
“I feel she held us to ransom and then made her solo record deal.
“It’s the truth. She’s saying that we broke the band up. So there you go.”
In 2017, Nadine admitted she now felt “indifferent” towards the rest of the group telling HuffPost UK: “In an ideal world, we would be all great friends, and it would be a great thing… but I’m really supportive of things that they do, and you can’t help but feel happy for somebody when something great happens, you know, they have a baby or, you know, great things!
“I feel happy for other people feeling happy. I can take joy from their happy moments.”
I’m A Celebrity airs nightly at 9pm on ITV.
