We’re just shy of a week in, and I’m A Celebrity has already outdone itself with the first eating challenge of the series.
Roman Kemp and Adele Roberts were the unlucky celebs tasked with chowing down on a variety of unpleasant treats in the “Just Desserts” Bush Tucker Trial, in order to win meals for their campmates.
Among the grim dishes on the menu included a Creme Poo-lee, Profiter-balls and Cocky Road Ice Cream, and as ever, the stars didn’t disappoint when it came to their hilarious reactions.
First up was Roman, who was tasked with eating three cockroaches, crickets and mealworms in his Critter-Bocker Glory, while Adele’s first meal was a vomit fruit, dubbed a Tirrama-spew.
“It’s basically like eating a piece of fruit,” presenter Declan Donnelly explained. “Which tastes like vomit.”
Despite gagging at the smell, Adele managed to keep the nasty dish down, but declared: “It’s like your dog’s been sick and you have to eat it.”
Next up was Roman, who ate a Licky Toffee Pudding (ducks’ tongues), as Adele was presented with Profiter-balls which… yes, were pretty much exactly what you’re expecting.
“I will ever eat turkey again,” she announced, after eating one of their testicles.
Also served up was a Mississippi Udder Pie (a cow’s teat for Roman), a Piggy Pudding (a pig’s uterus) and – probably the stand-out moment of the challenge – Cocky Road Ice Cream.
Presented with an enormous penis, Roman was first asked to guess where it came from, joking: “James Haskell.”
The challenge ended on Adele eating a camel’s anus, which she was able to finish by imagining her idol, Jane McDonald, was at her side (although we have to say, we can’t imagine it would have been Jane’s scene).
In total, Roman and Adele were able to finish all 10 of producers’ horrible concoctions, winning meals for all of their campmates, including themselves.
Shortly before the series began, it was confirmed that this would be the first year the celebrities wouldn’t be fed live critters as part of eating challenges, after facing pressure from animal rights campaigners, including Springwatch host Chris Packham.
