As far as political parties go, Change UK hasn’t had the best start. From disappointing polling numbers to *that* ‘funny tinge’ comment, it’s been a bumpy old ride for the group of rebel MPs.
But in a speech on Thursday, former Labour backbencher Joan Ryan seemed determined to turn around Change UK’s fortunes – by channelling her inner David Brent.
“Can you just look at your hands, please?” Ryan asked a crowd at European election rally in Bath.
“That’s it, it’s there, that’s the answer to this,” she continued. “It’s in your hands.
“So take your hands and get out there.”
Needless to say, it didn’t take long for the tweets comparing Ryan to Slough’s finest office manager.
Echoing David Brent’s famous speech scene, one user quipped: “I’ve been Joan Ryan, you’ve been the best.”
Change UK will be hoping that some of Brent’s charm will rub off on voters ahead of the European elections.
Polls open on May 23, with results set to be announced on May 27.
