Judge Judy has a court date for cancellation.

Judy Sheindlin has told Ellen DeGeneres in an interview to air on Monday that her popular series Judge Judy is to end after 25 years.

The TV jurist said distributor CBS “wanted to optimally utilise the repeats of my programme, because now they have 25 years of reruns”.

She added: “So what they decided to do was to sell a couple of years’ worth of reruns, but I’m not tired.”

After the show finishes next year, Judy plans to wield her gavel on a new series.

She told Ellen that Judy Justice will begin a year later, but gave no other details about her new show.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a dispute between Rebel Entertainment Partners, Judy and CBS Television Distribution over profits of Judge Judy profits was settled recently by a mediator.

Judge Judy is the highest-rated daytime syndicated show in the US since The Oprah Winfrey Show, and Judy’s last contract reportedly earned her $47 million (approx £36m) a year, according to Deadline.

In the UK, Judge Judy currently airs on digital channel CBS Reality, having previously aired on ITV2.

A British equivalent, Judge Rinder, began in 2014 on ITV.
