Julia Sawalha has publicly slammed her famous sister Nadia, accusing her of “talking lies and rubbish” about their relationship on Loose Women.
The actress, best known for her role as Saffy in Absolutely Fabulous, claimed the presenter had “destroyed” their family, and accused her of crying “fake tears” on daytime TV to “gain sympathy and attention”.
Earlier this week, Nadia detailed her “stormy” relationship with her youngest sister on Loose Women, describing how they had fallen out and made up a number of times.
Having since seen the episode in question, Julia took to Twitter on Wednesday to give her side of the story.
She tweeted: “So tired of #nadiasawalha talking about our ‘stormy’ relationship which she created. I’ve kept my privacy for 6 years to protect my family, whilst she talks lies & rubbish.
“You have destroyed our family so don’t sit on TV with your fake tears to gain sympathy & attention.”
Julia added: “Yes well it’s very difficult when you only see the story from one side. I’m not actually fighting, she is, but paints a very different picture publicly and I’ve had enough.”
Replying to followers who offered their support, she said: “Watching six years of her lies finally got to me, which of course is just what she wants, more attention.”
She added: “I have allowed someone else to carry the narrative for 6 years... my pressure cooker blew today, I’m only human.”
On Monday’s Loose Women, Nadia said: “My youngest sister and I have always had a really stormy relationship. She’s totally amazing. She’s really amazing, my younger sister, but we’ve always had a really volatile relationship.
“We’ve always had periods of time in our life where we don’t speak. I always say I had the best time or the worst time of my life with her.”
She added: “We have a very intense, on and off relationship.”
When contacted by HuffPost UK, a spokesperson for Nadia said: “Thank you for getting in touch and I’m afraid Nadia won’t be commenting.”
However, Nadia’s former agent, Melanie Blake, hasn’t been quite as diplomatic on Twitter, coming out in public support for Julia by calling her ex-client a “the fakest woman in the world”.
Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
