Katie Price has revealed she has made the heartbreaking decision to move her son Harvey into a full-time residential college.
The TV personality said the 18-year-old will be taught skills which will help him to lead a more independent life.
Harvey is partially blind and has Prader-Willi syndrome, autism and learning and behavioural difficulties as a result of a rare genetic disorder.
Speaking to The Sun about her decision, Katie said Harvey will be living three hours away from her and she is upset at the thought of not being able to see him everyday.
“It breaks my heart. I don’t want him to think I’m just getting rid of him,” she said.
“It’s so upsetting to think I won’t see him every day but this is the best thing for Harvey and we have to think positively because I don’t want him to think I’m just getting rid of him.
“This is his chance to live an independent life, learn skills and socialise with people other than me.”
She continued: “I need to learn to let go but it’s tough — anyone in my position knows how hard it is.
“We have an incredible bond. I don’t know how Harvey will react or how he’ll feel when I can’t get to him. It’s too painful to think about.”
Katie added that she hopes Harvey, who is her son with former footballer Dwight Yorke, will be able to move into her first choice of college in Gloucestershire in September, and he will remain there until he is 25.
At the beginning of 2020, Harvey attended a residential college part time, returning home at weekends, but he was taken out in March due to the coronavirus pandemic and his condition as he’s considered high risk.
A documentary about Katie’s experiences of bringing Harvey up is to air on Monday 25 January at 8.30pm on BBC One.
