Later... With Jools Holland is set to feature a co-host each week, for the first time in the programme’s 27-year history.
The show airs twice weekly, with a 30-minute mid-week broadcast being followed by an hour-long episode at the end of each week.
While this format is set to stay the same in future series, the BBC has announced that the longer show will now see the former Squeeze keyboardist joined by a different co-presenter each week.
This change comes following a recent bidding competition for the rights to produce the hit show, which saw BBC Studios (its longtime producer) fighting off other comapnies.
As part of their bid, BBC Studios, the commercial arm of the corporation, pledged to revitalise the hour-long show and make it “more relaxed”.
It now will include “unique” performances, bespoke films and backstage interviews.
There will be four series of Later… with Jools Holland, over the next two years, each series being spready out over six weeks.
The annual Hootenanny shows will also continue airing until at least 2020.
