Laura Ingraham Targets Even Legal Immigrants In Off-The-Rails Rant

The Fox News host got called out for claiming "the America we know and love doesn't exist anymore."

Fox News host Laura Ingraham on Wednesday lamented the demographic changes in America due to immigration ― including the arrival of legal immigrants.

“In some parts of the country, it does seem like the America that we know and love doesn’t exist anymore,” she complained on “The Ingraham Angle.”

She also decried “massive demographic changes” that have been “foisted” on Americans.

Ingraham had previously been discussing Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and mentioned the Democratic congressional candidate’s recent comments about the United States changing. But while Ocasio-Cortez was talking about changing economic realities for working and middle-class Americans, Ingraham used those remarks as a springboard for her anti-immigration rant:

Nevertheless, [Ocasio-Cortez] is kind of right in a general sense. Because in some parts of the country, it does seem like the America that we know and love doesn’t exist anymore. Massive demographic changes have been foisted upon the American people. And they’re changes that none of us ever voted for, and most of us don’t like. From Virginia to California, we see stark examples of how radically in some ways the country has changed. Now, much of this is related to both illegal and, in some cases, legal immigration that, of course, progressives love.

Ingraham later added:

The president can be so persuasive, so give us the whole truth, Mr. President, the good, the bad, and yes, the uncomfortable. This is a national emergency and he must demand that Congress act now. There is something slipping away in this country and it’s not about race or ethnicity. It’s what was once a common understanding by both parties that American citizenship is a privilege, and one that at a minimum requires respect for the rule of law and loyalty to our Constitution.

Ingraham’s complaint targeting even legal immigrants didn’t go over well on Twitter:

Speak for yourself, and every other last gasp of a dying gen, @IngrahamAngle. WE love this country’s diversity. https://t.co/2GijMcK6vA

I’m a broken record on this but demographic anxieties and the changing face of the nation are far more motivating to Republican voter behavior than esoteric principles about taxation and the size of government. The rise of Trump is testament to this phenomenon.

The British descendants said that when the Irish came, the Irish said that when the Italians arrived, etc

I bet the First Peoples (Native Americans) are & have been thinking the same thing for the last three hundred years. They never asked for a genocide of their own people by white settlers.

Massive demographic changes the locals didn't like? Tell that to the Native Americans....

People like Laura Ingraham said the same thing when my Greek ancestors came to America in the early 20th century. We were too “ethnic” (read: dirty) for people like Laura, who never understood that America is an idea; and not a race, religion or political party. https://t.co/X2VCyrqp5F

Most of us? Speak for yourself. I like living in a country that celebrates DIVERSITY & I hope most Americans agree. My family (both sides) have been here since the mid-1600s except for a few Irish stragglers in the 1800s. Feel free to leave. *Russia* is waiting so off you go! BYE
