The race to Number 10 has a surprise late entrant, in the form of Liam Gallagher.

The former Oasis frontman has thrown his hat into the ring to become the next prime minister, claiming he’s determined to “sort this pile of shit out”.

Writing on Twitter, the musician closed his statement by referencing his second solo album, Why Me? Why Not, appearing to use its name as a campaign slogan.

The comment from the 46-year-old, whose next album is set for release in September, comes as Boris Johnson and other candidates are set to face a fresh round of voting in the Tory leadership race, the winner of which will succeed Theresa May as PM.

Liam followed up the initial tweet with another post reading simply: “ParLIAMent c’mon you know.”

Asked what he would do first in power, Liam said he would reform Oasis, the band he founded with his brother Noel Gallagher.

“Get Oasis back together I’d make it law,” he tweeted.

Liam’s desire to enter the leadership race has been met with encouragement.

Boris Johnson, Jeremy Hunt, Rory Stewart, Sajid Javid, Dominic Raab and Michael Gove are all currently in the frame to become the next Tory party leader.

The second round of voting takes place later today when the race will be whittled down from six to five, if not fewer, as any candidate who fails to secure the backing of at least 33 votes will be eliminated.

Those that survive today’s ballot will then face-off in a live TV debate on the BBC this evening.
