Lily Allen has suspended her Twitter account after she faced criticism for comments she made about the election result.

The singer is a vocal Labour supporter and after the exit polls predicting a win for the Conservatives were released on Thursday night, Lily accused Boris Johnson’s party of using “unchecked targeted bespoke propaganda”.

“We need to start taking this seriously,” she said.

When it was suggested to her that it was not “one sided”, she replied: “Yes, it is. The left don’t have the resources of the right.”

Lily then faced further attention after Piers Morgan tweeted about comments she had made on her Instagram account.

She had written: “Some say it was Brexit, some day it was Jeremy [Corbyn], personally, and I know no one wants to hear it, I think that racism and misogyny runs so so deep in this country and that Boris won because of his attitude towards those things and not in spite of them.”

Responding to a news article published about her comments on Twitter, Piers wrote: “I think I speak for Britain when I say if @lilyallen doesn’t like it here, why doesn’t she f*ck off?”

The Good Morning Britain presenter’s tweet sparked over 7,000 comments in response, many of which criticised Lily.

After somebody replied calling her a “privilege-denying clown”, she fired back: “Oh fuck off I shout out my privilege every five mins. It’s because of my privilege and proximity to to it that I know what inherently greedy c***s we all are. I KEEP TRYING TO TELL YOU.”

Lily’s name also trended on the social media site on Friday, and by the end of the day, her account no longer existed.

She also hailed the Labour manifesto as “the best I’ve ever seen” in a video posted on Instagram.
