WARNING! This article contains possible spoilers for Line Of Duty series five, which some readers may prefer to avoid

The nation was left on the edge of its collective seat on Sunday night, as Line Of Duty fans came one step closer to identifying the mysterious ‘H’.

The cliffhanger of the fifth series’ second episode saw corrupt officer PC Jane Cafferty forced to identify who had recruited her into working with the organised crime group that AC-12 are currently investigating.

Viewers saw DI Kate Flemming present her with a line-up of pictures of known corrupt officers, as well as a picture presumed to be of her boss, Superintendent Ted Hastings.

While fans did not get to see which picture she had pointed to, the suspect’s identity left Flemming as DS Arnott stunned, as a shifty Hastings also looked uncomfortable as the interrogation unfolded.

From this, many assumed Cafferty had pointed to Hastings’ picture, as suspicion continues to build that he could be the corrupt officer heading up the organised crime group (OCG) from within the force.

However, one eagle-eyed fan has seemingly solved the cliffhanger, with Hastings looking to be off the hook... for now anyway.

Twitter user @H29Gibbins managed to look past the awkward camera angles and match all the pictures up with ones we’d previously seen.

And from their super-sleuthing, it looks very much like Cafferty was pointing at a picture of former AC-12 officer, DI Matthew ‘Dot’ Cottan – aka, The Caddy.

Long-term fans of Line Of Duty will remember The Caddy was working for gang leader Tommy Hunter, and had embedded himself within AC-12.

His colleagues uncovered his true identity in the series three finale, before he was killed off after a spectacular chase scene.

Cottan’s dying declaration first introduced ‘H’, as in his dying moments, he revealed the OCG was headed up by a top dog in the police force.

Meanwhile, another fan on Twitter also speculated that Hastings’ visit from former DCI Mark Moffatt could lead to him being fitted up as ‘H’.

Viewers saw the ex-officer visit Hastings’ hotel to inform him that the original investors of a dodgy property development In Northern Ireland – in which Hastings had put money – were being compensated.

@VeryTepid on Twitter speculated that Moffatt is in with the OCG and is fitting him up to make it look like Hastings is on the take.

I think the Kettle Bell complex will be used to frame Hastings - he'll get a huge deposit/refund into his bank account just before he's arrested and it will look like he's on the take. Then, when he tries to explain it, Kettle Bell won't exist - Moffat's in on it.

And we have to admit, this is a very plausible theory.

Find out if there’s any truth in both of these points as Line Of Duty continues on Sunday at 9pm on BBC One.
