A spokesman for UK Power Networks said the power could be restored between 8.30pm and 9.30pm, The Metro reports.

Numerous buildings were affected, including restaurants, shops and reportedly traffic lights. The area’s famous bars were shut just as the Friday evening rush was beginning.

People posted surreal photos of some of London’s most famous busy streets in near complete darkness.
