Thousands of rail passenger are stranded at Euston after services in and out of one of London’s busiest stations were suspended.
National Rail warned disruption was likely to continue until at least 8pm on Thursday as a result of a fault with the station’s signalling system.
The problem was having a knock-on effect across the country with trains cancelled as far away as Manchester as they are unable to get to Euston.
The station later said power had been restored but significant disruption was still expected.
Among those affected are those passengers who were hoping to use Virgin Trains services.
The company is advising customers to travel on Friday if possible and their tickets will still be valid.
A tweet from Virgin Trains said: “We’re currently expecting severe delays, alterations and cancellations to services in/out of London Euston.
“This is due to a fault with the signalling system causing all lines to be blocked at Euston until further notice. We’d advise you to travel tomorrow where possible.”
A tweet from the station said: “Power has been restored at Euston and signals are now working again.
“We’re sorry to passengers as significant disruption is expected while trains get back to normal.”
