A lorry carrying thousands of tubes of Pringles crisps has caught fire on the M1 motorway in the east Midlands.

Flames took hold of the heavy goods vehicle near junction 25 in Derbyshire at about 7am on Sunday, and a slip road was closed.

Highways England said the driver was able to escape the cab and detach the trailer without being injured.

On the Highways England Twitter feed, burnt tubes of Pringles were pictured at the side of the lorry in the aftermath.

Update: @CrouchRecovery are working with our team and @DerbyshireFRS to recover the vehicle. Attached are a few images of the scale of the operation. Rest assured we are working as quickly and as safely as possible to get the slip open again.https://t.co/71qCpLIlYt pic.twitter.com/uW76DVpCJo
