Eyebrows were certainly raised during Sunday night’s Love Island launch show, but probably not for the reasons you might think.

The episode introduced viewers to the 12 new Islanders, including late arrivals Eve and Jess Gale, identical twins brought in to try and disrupt the early-established relationships on the show.

However, one additional figure in the South African villa inadvertently wound up capturing fans’ attention, after viewers claimed they spotted an unidentified person lurking in a bush.

During a conversation between contestants Connor Durman and Sophie Piper, many viewers on social media pointed out the unidentified figure, with plenty providing their own theories over who it might be…

HuffPost UK has contacted ITV for some kind of clarification, because frankly we’re as stumped as anyone else.

This year marks the first time Love Island has aired in the winter, after it was revealed the popular reality series would be bumped up to two series a year.

As the show’s usual home in Mallorca doesn’t quite have the tropical climate viewers associate with the show in January, producers have moved the show to a new villa in South Africa.

Laura Whitmore also made her debut as presenter in Sunday night’s episode, after taking over as host from Caroline Flack, who stepped down after she was arrested and subsequently charged with assault.

Among the new Islanders are future “lord of the manor” Ollie Williams, aspiring singer Paige Turley and the aforementioned Sophie Piper, whose sister is the singer and TV presenter Rochelle Humes.

Love Island airs every night on ITV2.
