There’s set to be a massive twist in the tale of Michael Griffiths and Amber Gill’s Love Island romance, when he starts questioning if he still has feelings for her.
Wednesday night’s episode of the ITV2 reality show will see the firefighter appearing to have second thoughts about their relationship, having dumped her for Joanna Chimonides earlier in the series.
Recent episodes have seen Amber confess she still likes Michael, but he then told her in no uncertain terms that her feelings were not reciprocated.
However, following Joanna’s dramatic exit earlier in the week, tonight sees Michael admit to Curtis Pritchard, Ovie Soko and Jordan Hames that he’s been reconsidering things.
“Now Joanna’s gone it’s given me time to think about things and I realise that yeah, I do like Amber,” he says.
“I’m not saying I don’t like Joanna, because I do. But I feel like because Joanna was there I actively avoided Amber.”
As the boys question whether he thinks things between them would be different a second time round, he adds: “I feel like I need to do myself a favour and let her know.”
Another part of the episode sees Ovie offering Michael some advice about his feelings towards Amber.
“Don’t let your pride hurt you,” he tells his pal. “Don’t fight yourself.”
However, it might be a case of too little too late, as Amber enjoys a date with new boy Greg in the Hideaway.
She later tells the girls: “His accent is fabulous. And he can take the banter.
“I’m telling you now, I haven’t liked one boy that has come in. That boy has got the luck of the Irish!”
Michael and Amber were early favourites to win the series with their blossoming romance, but it all came to a crashing end when Joanna turned Michael’s head during the Casa Amor twist.
His subsequent treatment of Amber has attracted criticism, with over 150 people complaining to TV watchdog Ofcom about the way he ordered her to “sit down” during a conversation earlier this week.
Michael apologised to her in the following night’s episode, insisting: “When I came over and told you to sit down, it was because you had wearing heels all night and I didn’t want you to walk anywhere else. I am apologising if it came across in a bad way.”
Amber replied: “I just think you really need to think about the way you speak to me, because it comes across really badly.
“I knew you before and you never spoke to me in a way that made me feel upset.”
The possibility they could end up reuniting follows comments made by Amber’s mum, who is hoping she will steer clear.
Speaking on Wednesday’s This Morning, she said: “I don’t think she’ll go back with him, I hope she doesn’t. Because of the whole way I think he’s played it.
“He hasn’t been upfront with her. He’s been a little bit holding himself back, I don’t know whether he’s playing a little bit of a game. But I think he should’ve been honest with her when she opened up her feelings to him when they went to that night out.”
Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
