Amber Gill and Greg O’Shea have been crowned the winners of this year’s Love Island in one of the show’s most closely-run finals.

The couple beat bookies’ favourites Tommy Fury and Molly-Mae Hague and fellow finalists India Reynolds and Ovie Soko and Curtis Pritchard and Maura Higgins during Monday night’s live climax.

Host Caroline Flack revealed Amber and Greg had pocketed the £50,000 cash prize in front of a crowd outside the Love Island villa in Mallorca, Spain, after they topped the public vote.

However, the champions faced one final twist, which saw Greg select an envelope that contained all of the prize money, before being posed with the decision of whether to split it with Amber or steal it for himself.

Confirming he had entered the villa in search of love and not money, Greg chose to share the cash with his partner.

In an interview prior to the announcement they’d won, Amber and Greg said they were looking forward to continuing to get to know one another on the outside, having only coupled up two weeks ago.

Tommy and Molly-Mae had been the hot favourites going into the final, having been the only pair who’d put a label on their relationship, but they were forced to settle for second place.

Earlier in the evening, Curtis and Maura finished the series in fourth place after polling the least amount of public votes.

In their interview with Caroline, Curtis addressed his split from Amy Hart, telling the host he thought his ex was “fabulous”, but had been caught up in a bubble and had not realised that there were “things missing” in their relationship.

Caroline then announced Ovie and India had finished in third place.

The pair, who have only been together for 12 days, said a “family BBQ” was likely to be their first real date, with Ovie adding he believed he had found “a wonderful lady” in India.

Following the huge success of this series, Love Island is set to return early next year after bosses confirmed there will be two editions of the ITV2 show in 2020.

The new winter edition will come from Cape Town in South Africa, before the usual summer run heads back to Mallorca in Spain, with applications for the next series now open.
