Two police officers reportedly made a “lucky escape” after their patrol car caught fire on the M20 Motorway near Kent.

A police spokesman said the vehicle was “destroyed” by the fire near Junction 10 at Ashford shortly after 4pm on Sunday.

Two officers in the car escaped unhurt and no other vehicles were involved in the incident, the spokesman said.

The fire caused the London-bound carriageway to be closed for almost an hour from 5pm.

Newsflare reported that the car caught fire before the officers managed to pull over and was “burnt beyond recognition”.

“The 2 Officers inside had a lucky escape and jumped out of the car which was well alight as it came to a stop,” the person who filmed the video wrote online.
