Police have launched a murder investigation after the death of a man who was hit by a vehicle and then stabbed several times in Oxford.

The victim, aged 22 and from Southampton, was attacked on February 27, and taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, but died on Wednesday evening.

Appealing for witnesses, Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Blaik, of the Thames Valley Police Major Crime Unit, said: “We believe the incident started at approximately 11.20pm in Ridgefield Road before moving into Southfield Road and involved a number of people.

“Sadly, the injuries sustained by the victim have proved fatal, and a murder investigation has been launched.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the 24-hour Thames Valley Police enquiry centre on 101, quoting URN 1134 06/03/2019.

A 22-year-old man of no fixed abode was arrested last week on suspicion of Section 18 wounding with intent. Police did not immediately confirm whether a re-arrest had taken place.

Home Secretary Sajid Javid said on Wednesday that he would list to the police over resources after meeting with force bosses over the issue of knife crime.
