Police investigating the deaths of 39 migrants in the back of a lorry have confirmed they are “in liaison” with Garda police after a man was arrested in Dublin.
A man in his early twenties from Northern Ireland was arrested at Dublin Port on Saturday afternoon.
Gardai said the man was held over an unrelated outstanding court order.
However in a statement to HuffPost UK, Essex Police said it was liaising with the Irish police.
“We are in liaison with the Garda police in relation to an arrest they have made today at Dublin Port,” the force said.
“At this point he is only being processed by the Garda in relation to unconnected offences to the Essex Police investigation.”
It had been reported that the man who was arrested was being sought by Essex Police in connection with their investigation. However, the force refused to confirm he was “of interest” to the probe.
