Detectives are appealing for information after a man was raped in a park near a Berkshire town centre.

Thames Valley Police said it was called by a member of the public at 3.33am on Saturday who had found a man in a distressed state in Grenfell Park, Maidenhead.

The force said the victim, a man in his twenties, told the member of the public he was raped near the park’s basketball court.

Detective chief inspector Penny Mackenzie said: “This is an extremely serious offence and a thorough investigation is under way.

“We believe the victim was in Gordon’s bar in Queen Street, Maidenhead, last night or the early hours of this morning, where he met a man.

“The victim and the man then left the bar and walked through Grenfell Park. The victim was then raped by a man near the basketball court in the park.”

The offender is thought to have also stolen the victim’s phone after the attack

Mackenzie added: “The man that the victim met in the bar may not be the offender, however we need to speak to him as he could have vital information that can aid our investigation.”

The man is described as white, about 5ft 8ins, with short brown hair, possibly in his early twenties and was wearing a T-shirt and Nike trainers.

He did not speak any English and may have been Romanian.

Anyone with information or concerns should speak to officers at the scene in the park, call 101 or visit the Thames Valley police website.
