Manchester United's problems go much further than the lack of a world-class midfielder. It appears the Red Devils are after Juan Mata and have been linked to several other big names. However, Utd must look at strengthening other positions.
Looking at the back four, there has been a lot of talk about replacing Patrice Evra. The left-back has not been at his best but still does a good job. Leighton Baines would be an ideal replacement if they can acquire his services for around the £15million mark.
It is not like Man Utd to be leaking goals. They have conceded 27 goals in the Premier League alone. Nemanja Vidic has recently come back from injury and is now serving a ban after receiving a red-card against Chelsea on Sunday. Not many doubt Vidic's ability and he is still regarded as one of the best centre-backs in the country.
However, Rio Ferdinand is not the player he once was and Jonny Evans is not consistent enough. Although Man Utd have Chris Smalling and Phil Jones they are not regular centre-backs and the former champions must look at bringing in another regular centre-half.
Man Utd have a good midfield but they need a player that can hold the ball and dictate play. Juan Mata has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford and it would be a perfect move for both club and player. Although Gary Neville has come out and said his former club are not desperate to bring Mata to Old Trafford, if Jose Mourinho declares he is for sale, David Moyes will bite his hand off.
There is not much to say on United's strike force. Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie are arguably the deadliest combination in the Premier League. The pair are currently injured and Utd are struggling to hit the back of the net. However, every team has injuries it's something you have to deal with.
Javier Hernandez needs to be given the chance to play up-front, a fox in the box indeed and would relish the challenge. Danny Welbeck is favoured to Hernandez but is he really that great? Many don't think so. To be entirely honest he's probably only in the team because he's a local boy. Although Welbeck does put some good performances in now and then, Hernandez needs to be getting more starts before he's snapped up by another club.
Sometimes David Moyes's thinking defies logic. Against Chelsea on Sunday Moyes started Young, Valencia and Januzaj. Playing three wingers when there are only two wings is bizarre to say the least. Man Utd are not enjoying life under Moyes and things need to change if they want to see an improvement in results and performances any time soon.
David Moyes should look at starting Kagawa instead of Young and Hernandez instead of Welbeck. With Januzaj whipping balls in from the left and the creativity of Kagawa, Hernandez will find himself on the end of a good ball and he doesn't miss the target very often.
A 4-2-3-1 formation would suit Man Utd much better with Carrick and Phil Jones playing deep midfield roles, Kagawa as an attacking midfielder, Januzaj on the left, Valencia on the right and Hernandez up-front.
