Mariah Carey has reportedly split from fiancé James Packer, just nine months after first announcing they were engaged.
According to the Australian publication Woman’s Day, the Aussie tycoon chose to end his relationship with Mariah after a disagreement over her upcoming reality show, as well as what has been described as “excessive spending”.
A “family friend” told the magazine that it was “all over” for the couple, adding: “James had huge reservations about Mariah’s new reality TV show and the fact that she was willing to expose their lives to the world.”
Mariah’s upcoming reality series, billed as an “eight-part event” (camp), will debut on E! later in the year, documenting her recent ‘The Sweet Sweet Fantasy’ tour, which included her first UK live shows in more than a decade.
The trailer for ‘Mariah’s World’ debuted back in May, featuring several fabulously ridiculous moments, including a monologue about why she insists on wearing sunglasses indoors and, of course, a mini diva strop.
She and James first announced their engagement in January, just six months after they were photographed together for the first time, holding hands while on holiday together in Capri.
Her engagement ring was typically understated, with an estimated worth of around $7.5 million (£6.1 million), which Woman’s Day has reported Mariah has been allowed to keep, following the break-up.
Mariah was previously married to Nick Cannon, who she divorced in 2015 after seven years of marriage, and was also married to music executive Tommy Mottola from 1993 to 1998.
James has also been married twice previously - first to model Jodhi Meares, and later to the Australian singer and model, Erica Packer.
He later insisted he had a 'damn good reason' for putting the brakes on her scheduled performance.
Although they tried to make a go of it in the outside world, it wasn't long before infidelity accusations were thrown from both sides, with Stephanie eventually announcing she was pregnant with Jeremy's child.
He later addressed the break-up in his track 'Cry Me A River', and has repeatedly made digs at her over the past decade.
