The drug cannabis is widely used these days and considered a dangerous drug. But is it really a dangerous drug? Recently I've been reading a book called the Marijuana Chronicles.
Whilst reading through it I realized that the only reason cannabis is illegal is because of racism in the early 30s:
"There are 100,000 total marijuana smokers in the U.S, and most are Negroes, Hispanics. Filipinos and entertainers. Their satanic music, jazz and swing, result from marijuana usage. This causes white woman to seek sexual relations with Negroes, entertainers and many others."
I believe it's these old fashioned views, which have stopped liberating the legal use of cannabis.
"Herb is the healing of a nation, alcohol is the destruction" - Bob Marley. Ask yourself, alcohol is legal and it's got no health benefits and is a depressant, Cannabis is an anti-depressant and helps people deal with the pains of cancer; medical marijuana has also been scientifically proven to help stop cancer.
Barack Obama, the American President has also said himself that "Marijuana is no more dangerous than drinking alcohol". He also added "weed is even less dangerous on the individual consumer". Surely this shows how marijuana is such a safe drug. I'm not going to go as far as saying it's not a drug it's natural. But I do think that the Government have twisted peoples views to make it seem more harmful than it actually is.
However I think this could of been avoided if the government didn't make it illegal. In the UK cannabis is considered a class B drug, why? Just because the government aren't making profit out of it? Why do you think its illegal to sell tobacco if it's not been taxed? The government aren't making it illegal because they think it's bad, they're doing it because they don't make profit.
The way pot grows is just like a flower; depending on the genetic strain you can get stronger or weaker types of Cannabis. Although it does also involve how the grower grows it. If they grow it with love and care it will come out good, however if the conditions are bad and they aren't caring for the plant properly it will grow poorly.
Obviously I don't know everything about this extraordinary 'drug', but through research I have learned a little. Personally I've never had a feel for the drug, and I can understand why people wouldn't want to smoke it. But I think if you don't like the feel of it you shouldn't do it. Simple. I don't believe because people don't like the mental effects of weed it means it should be illegal, I think we should just be careful with it.
Should cannabis be legalized?
Personally I say yes, I think cannabis should be I don't see the harm, some could say it's ignorant; what I'm saying is all pretty much pro legalization, but I genuinely can't see the problems with Marijuana. However I guess you could say the same for people who haven't tried it and think it should be illegal, you never truly know until you try it.
Although, I do know that one of the effects of pot is that it will shrink the hippocampus, which is the center of the brain and is used for the nervous system and where memories are kept. But if you use abstinence the size will re-grow back to its original form.
Marijuana, it does effect you physically but only really in a positive way? People with severe anorexia or people who have had chemotherapy, the reason this happens is because THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) contains similar food receptors to the ones in your brain, this is why when you smoke marijuana you get the 'munchies'.
In total marijuana is a harmless drug, which people are to uneducated on Marijuana and need to do proper research if they want to find out what marijuana's really like. I'm not saying there's nothing wrong with it, but I am saying there are a lot of things right about it.
