Mary Nightingale Does Her Best Theresa May Impression As She Croaks Her Way Through ITV News, Declares She's 'Off For A Whiskey'

What a trooper.

We’ve all been there.

You’re sat in your office when a colleague comes in coughing and sneezing all over the shop, believing they’re doing the right thing by honouring their work commitments when in actual fact all they’re doing is giving you and everyone else in the office their germs. Cut to two days later and Jan from Finance is running the whole bloody show (thanks Jan) whilst everyone else is tucked up watching This Morning.

This is something that newsreader Mary Nightingale knows all about after she fell victim to “the ITN cold” (her words), which came into full effect during Monday’s ITV Evening News.

And judging by the clip below, Mary was OVER IT.

Poor Mary Nightingale has a case of the Theresa Mays tonight and just croaked her way through the @itn evening news. Her parting words were that she was “off for a Lemsip or a whiskey”. *Other cold remedies are available pic.twitter.com/ROTU17f8f8

After telling everyone watching that she had the aforementioned “ITN cold”, she then croaked her way through the intro into a news piece about McDonalds’ controversial Monopoly game, only just managing to get to the end before running out of steam.

It was all very Theresa May...

Making it to the end of Monday’s programme, Mary told viewers she was off for “a Lemsip or a whiskey”, which we’re pretty sure (a) goes against advertising guidelines (*other cold remedies are available) and (b) makes us love Mary just a little bit more - and we weren’t the only ones...

Oh Mary Nightingale, you dealt with that brilliantly. Loved your little whiskey comment at the end. Grab yourself one, you deserve it!

After coming off air, Mary took to Twitter to apologise, insisting “normal service will resume later this week” before joking that she “may give Theresa May a call for advice”.

Hello Twitter - Sorry about that! Normal service will resume later this week. Thanks for all your kind comments and suggestions. I may give Theresa May a call for advice (or maybe not). That’ll teach me not to battle into work when I’m ill. 🤧😷🤒🦠💊🍋🛏🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃

Let’s hope she makes a speedy recovery. Get well soon Mary!
